Question 1

How high should island pendant lights hang above a kitchen counter?

Accepted Answer

The bottom of an island pendant is usually placed 75–90 cm (about 30–36 inches) above the countertop, so it lights the work surface without blocking your view across the kitchen. In homes with higher ceilings, you may need a longer drop rod or adjustable cable, so check the maximum hanging length listed for each model on LedDisplay before buying.

Question 2

How many island lights do I need, and how far apart should they be?

Accepted Answer

Most islands up to about 1.5 m long use two pendants, and longer islands use three, spaced roughly 60–75 cm apart and at least 15 cm in from each end of the counter. If you prefer fewer fixtures, a single linear LED island light that runs most of the counter's length gives even light with only one ceiling point.

Question 3

What colour temperature and brightness is best for kitchen island lighting?

Accepted Answer

A neutral white of 3000K–4000K works well for islands because it is bright enough for chopping and cooking but less harsh than 6500K cool daylight. Look for a CRI of 80 or higher so vegetables and food look natural. Aim for enough total lumens to light the full counter surface evenly. LedDisplay lists colour temperature, CRI and lumen output, so you can compare these specs across brands side by side.

Question 4

Do island pendant lights need special wiring in a modular kitchen?

Accepted Answer

Each pendant needs a ceiling electrical point directly above the island, and many Indian flats only have a central light point, so an electrician may need to run new wiring, ideally before false ceiling or modular work is finished. If you want dimming, choose a dimmable LED fixture and a compatible dimmer switch. Also prefer products with BIS-certified drivers for safe operation on 230V supply.
