Question 1

Do close-to-ceiling lights need a false ceiling for installation?

Accepted Answer

No, close-to-ceiling lights (also called surface-mount or flush-mount lights) are fixed directly onto a concrete or plaster ceiling with screws and a mounting plate. This makes them a practical choice for Indian homes and rented flats without a false ceiling, unlike recessed panel lights that need a cut-out. On LedDisplay, you can filter surface-mount models separately from recessed ones to avoid buying the wrong type.

Question 2

What wattage close-to-ceiling light do I need for a bedroom or living room?

Accepted Answer

As a rough guide, a 12W to 18W close-to-ceiling LED light suits a standard 10x10 ft bedroom, while a 100 to 150 sq ft living room usually needs 18W to 24W or two fixtures. Check the lumen rating, typically 80 to 100 lumens per watt for good-quality LEDs, since brightness varies between brands at the same wattage. LedDisplay lists lumen output alongside price where available, so you can compare actual brightness across brands.

Question 3

Can I use a close-to-ceiling LED light in the bathroom or balcony?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but choose a model with an IP rating of at least IP44 so it resists moisture and splashes in bathrooms or covered balconies. Many standard indoor ceiling lights are only IP20 and can fail early in humid conditions, especially during the monsoon. Look for the IP rating in the product specifications before buying.

Question 4

Which colour temperature is best for close-to-ceiling lights in Indian homes?

Accepted Answer

Cool white (6000K to 6500K) is popular for kitchens, study areas, and offices because it feels bright and crisp, while warm white (2700K to 3000K) creates a more relaxed feel in bedrooms and living rooms. Neutral white (4000K) is a balanced option if you want one light that works for both tasks and relaxing. Some models also offer 3-in-1 colour switching, which you can compare on LedDisplay if you can't decide on one tone.
